Welcome! A little about me…….
The older I get, the more I realize that submitting to God is the only way life can be lived 'guilt free' and happy! While I'm thankful for my rebellious years -- (because I learned A LOT) -- I'm more content than I have ever been with where I'm at in life. God has blessed me with an *AWESOME* family, who consistently supports me and provides that necessary feedback! I have a son who graduated in 2017 from UW Eau Claire a with a psychology degree. My daughter attended St. Mary's School for two years and is now a junior at Craig High School.
I spent 15 years teaching in the public school -- where I learned a lot, and wouldn't trade those experiences for the world! They have shaped me into the kind of teacher I am today! This is my 5th year teaching in the private school and I appreciate the subtle differences between the two.
Graduating with a masters degree in teacher leadership and receiving my 316 reading specialist degree, contributed immensely to the philosophies I have developed as a teacher. My job in the classroom is to foster and cultivate a passion for 'learning'. I believe that in order for that to happen, the teacher needs to be passionate about what they're 'teaching' -- knowing, all the while…, that the students are teaching her/him.
Two strategies I use to build strong connections with students are:
1. Opening circle. Allowing each student to have a voice in answering a question pertaining to their life and/or life experiences.
2. Using the 6 Thinking Hats to build critical thinking skills and a tolerance for others. This approach was designed by Edward DeBono, specifically for the business world; however, … … I have found that kids LOVE it!
